New look and new menu at Bar Canary
Emerging from a makeover, Bar Canary, or “BC” as it has come to be known by its advocates; looks set to be the next authority on open-air imbibing. This poolside bar is now a picture of light-heartedness and laidback harmony; an almost ‘carnival’-like atmosphere for the best convivial gatherings and tropical hangouts.
Beyond a major change in its interior, the menu offerings at BC have also undergone a revamp and constructed in the way nature has intended; focusing on the natural, fresh and recognisable. The décor and music selection reflects this approach as well, working together to create a laidback, warm, natural and familiar atmosphere for one to simply let loose and forget their worries as they dance the night away to the happy tunes of Modern Reggae and Sunny Soul. True to its slightly eclectic and quirky personality, BC encourages a barefoot culture, where guests can literally kick off their shoes, let loose and feel the grass under their feet.
The inspiration behind BC’s beverage menu is to taste summer in a glass. With a focus on flavours that refresh, rejuvenate and delight, the new cocktail menu is both innovative in its use of ingredients as it is creative in its presentation. In a bid to reflect our sunny, tropical culture and laidback vibe, Asian influences and natural ingredients can be found in the drinks and vessels.
Beautiful to behold, and lovely to sip, expect to find fresh cocktails in refreshing combinations such as the signature Coco Chanel ($20++ each) made with Gold Rum and coconut liqueur shaken with fresh Wheatgrass, fresh mint sprigs, lime juice and topped with fresh coconut water. Timeless classics get an update with tropical inspired concoctions such as the Endless Summer ($20++ each), a floral and fruity cocktail packed with a punch. Made with a healthy measure of Pisco muddled and shaken with fresh pineapple ginger and fresh lime, pineapple juice lychee liqeuer, apple & rose syrup and drops of cherry bitters, this is a perfect choice for a refreshing drink under the warm & humid weather.
The only thing better than an ice-cold cocktail at the end of a long and hot summer day is a cocktail that comes in the form of popsicles, made even better with BC’s selection of Boozy Pops ($18++ each). The first of its kind in Singapore, and exclusively made for Bar Canary by Popsicle guru Popaganda, there are five summery flavours to choose from – Strawberry Margarita, Passionfruit Mint, Mixed Berries Shiso, Mango Cayanne and Coconut Lemongrass.
Enjoy the classic Strawberry Margarita ($6++ per stick) on its own, or take our cue and pair the refreshing Passionfruit Mint with Riesling for a perfect match made in heaven. Spice up the buds with Mango Cayanne paired with sparkling vinos or a sweet malibu rum experience that is simply irresistible with Coconut Lemongrass popsicles. For some berry goodness, pair the Mixed Berries Shiso with Sake for a good kick of fruity delight.
As the perfect accompaniment to the cocktails and beer, chomp down on freshly grilled gourmet skewers (from $14++ for 4 skewers) such as Grilled Prawn with Mango Salsa, Quail Egg in Bonito Sauce, Shishamo encrusted with Spicy Seaweed, Miso Beef with Onions or if you can’t make up your mind, get the assorted platter ($24++ each) which comes with a selection of six bestsellers.
