Amber Nectar launches beer growlers!
Beer lovers will be thrilled at the introduction of beer growlers by Amber Nectar, a casual bar and beer specialist located at Robertson Walk. These beautiful tinted glass bottles provide guests the flexibility of taking away freshly-tapped, quality draft beers not commonly found in retail shops, as well as the option of refilling the bottles.
Opened since 2013, Amber Nectar serves a wide range of 20 unique styles of beers mainly from Germany as well as a selection of quality bar food. Highlights on the menu include the lip-smacking Schweinshaxe pork knuckle and the homemade Amber gourmet burger which is available with chicken, pork or beef patties. A favoured venue for sports fans, this beer haven also screens major sporting events such as football, Formula 1, rugby and tennis.
A relatively new concept in Singapore, beer growlers are the perfect party partner storing 1.89 L (64 ounces or approximately 4 pints) of ‘amber nectar’ and they look outstanding on the table as well. Since Amber Nectar is the first in Singapore to import and use special growler stations, customers can be assured of beer that has been properly filled and stored. Brown glass is used to keep out UV rays, ensuring the beer remains as fresh as possible. A capped growler can be stored for up to seven days in the refrigerator. Customers receive a new bottle when they return for a refill.
Customers at Amber Nectar can look forward to taking away the following German draft beers in the growler:
Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier – Mӓrzen ($48 per growler / $43.20 for refill)
Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier translates to ‘Original Schlenkerla Smokebeer’ and this dark variety is a speciality of Bamberg, Germany. The word ‘schlenkerla’ comes from the old German expression ‘schlenkern’ which means ‘not walking straight’. Over time, the main tavern in town, which was the first to brew smokebeer, took on the moniker of ‘Schlenkerla’ and has become the iconic tavern- brewery for this fine specimen of tipple. The beer’s distinctive flavour is achieved by first smoking malt with beechwood, followed by the addition of premium hops in copper kettles before it is matured in 700 year-old cellars beneath the Bamberg hills. It is reddish-brown in appearance, with tinges of bright orange and possesses the aroma of smoked sausage, bacon as well as light fruit. The finish is reminiscent of smoky cheese.
Hofbrӓu Original ($36 per growler / $31.20 for refill)
Brewed by one of Munich’s oldest breweries – Hofbrӓuhaus – this is a helles (German for ‘bright’) lager style of beer that is full-bodied and well-balanced.
Hofbräu Dunkel ($44 per growler / $39.20 for refill)
This was the first type of beer to be brewed at Hofbrӓuhaus and represents the quintessential Munich-style dark beer. It is spicy in flavour, rich in texture, yet refreshing on the palate.
Münchner Weisse – Hefe Weizen ($44 per growler / $39.20 for refill)
‘Hefe weizen’ means unfiltered wheat beer in English and is a general name used throughout Germany while the term ‘weissebier’ (white beer) is used namely in Bavaria. In 1602, Hofbräuhaus enjoyed this exclusive right to brew weissebier for nearly 200 years. The beer is characterised by sparkling rich foam and a fruity flavour.
