New Peranakan buffet at Orchard Cafe

Good news for fans of Peranakan cuisine. Orchard Cafe at Orchard Hotel has recently revamped its buffet spread and offerings a sumptuous galore of Peranakan dishes. Enjoy the rich blend of flavours from an array of authentic Straits cuisine dishes by Executive Chef Paul, including traditional roasts, seafood options and all-time local favourites.

The buffet spread will be showcasing chef Paul’s signature dishes like Nyonya Hokkien Mee, Fish Curry, Steamed Black Cod Otah, Sambal Sting Ray in Banana Leaves, Steamed Carrot Cake with Mushrooms and Chinese Sausages, Ngoh Hiang, Cincaluk Omelette and the perennial Oyster Omelette. Orchard Café’s famous Ah Huat Braised Fatty Pork (Kong Ba Pao with steamed Buns) will also be making a comeback. Other Straits favourites like Rojak, Satay, Popiah and Nyonya Laksa will also be served at various Live stations, freshly prepared for you. Also feast on traditional Perankan claypot dishes such as the tender Lembu Rendang (Slow-cooked Beef Cheek Rendang with Nyonya Spices), the healthy Nyonya Chap Chye (Braised Cabbage, Black Fungus, Pork Belly and Fermented Yellow Bean), the flavourful Babi Pongteh (Braised Pork Belly with Fermented Beans), the spicy Ikan Kuah Lada (Pink Snapper and Brinjal with Tumeric and Peppercorn Gravy) and the must-have traditional Ayam Buah Keluak (Braised Chicken with Indonesian Black Nuts).

If you can’t get enough of the famous Buah Keluak dish, the Kueh Pie Tee here is boosted with a dollop or two of the “Nyonya Caviar”, a.k.a Buah Keluak. You’d be surprised that how perfectly they blend together. On the roast station, get ready to indulge in a dazzling array of perfectly Asian roasts, ranging from Roast Pork Belly, Roast Duck to Roast Chicken and Char Siew.

Round up the vibrant meal with a range of hot and cold desserts like Tau Suan with Yew Char Kway, Bubur Cha Cha, Hot Peanut Cream, assorted Nyonya Kueh, Coconut Gula Melaka Mousse and Crackers and Chempedak Crepes topped with a choice of Gula Melaka, Chocolate, Coconut and Cold Durian Pengat.

The “Straits Cuisine” buffet is priced at $48 ++ per adult and $24++ per child for lunch and $68++ per adult and $34++ per child for dinner daily at Orchard Café. Senior citizens (aged 55 years and above) are entitled to 50% off the “Straits Cuisine” buffet lunch from Monday to Thursday, valid till 31 October 2014.
