Food Republic opens at Westgate Mall
The latest Food Republic is a first-of-its-kind concept located at Basement one of Westgate Mall in Jurong East. All 22 stalls, including two mini restaurants and two kiosks, are designed to resemble a live theatre set. Food Republic Westgate welcomes diners to its surreal cavernous atrium and with exciting performances in the pipe line, patrons can look forward to be entertained while they dine. The staff are also aptly dressed in uniforms adorned with suspenders and paperboy caps to match the theme.
Besides some of Singapore’s best hawkers, Food Republic Westgate also houses BreadTalk Group’s latest concept All Things N’Ice. This new cafe is a cosy place to hang out anytime of the day while enjoying hard to get traditional yam paste (orh-nee) and chendol as well as specialty Asian desserts such as handmade beancurd or Taiwanese shaved ice.
Looking for Singapore’s evergreen delights? Chinatown Tan’s Tutu Kueh is hand crafted by the current third generation owners from start to finish, this iconic rice flour cake is a perfect old style snack not to be missed. Xi De Li Fried Fritters’ Fried Glutinous Rice Buns has been the biggest selling item at current owners’ father’s stall in Clementi for over 20 years. Other than You Tiao and Hum Chin Pang, new bites include 3–in–1 Nian Gao comprising nian gao, yam and glutinous, Fried Spring Roll, Fried Yam Cake and Fried Carrot Cake.
Some Asian cuisines to sample include Hot Hot Pot which is a fusion of Chongqing Hot Pot and Sichuan style dry pot, diners can customize the spice levels from 5-7. This numbing and fragrant hotpot has added health benefits as Chinese herbs are used that aids in “removing heat” and cooling the body. Woo Lee Jeeb Dae Bak Korean Cuisine is managed by Xiang Hua who picked up cooking skills from her Korean mother and has experience in operating food courts and restaurants in Singapore, Korea and China. The stall specializes in Bimbimbak, Ginseng Chicken Soup, Bulgogi and Kimchi Ramen. The Bulgogi comes with a choice of pork, chicken or beef and customers can even ask for a mix of two meats.
With almost 100 different delicious Singapore-style hawker fare coupled with live entertainment and music performances, Food Republic at Westgate is all set to excite, entice and entertain young and old alike.
