Planning a big cook-out this Christmas season? The new Philips Airfryer XL may just come in handy!

Aptly named “Philips Avance XL Airfryer” the larger, improved version of the cooker allows for 50% more capacity, enabling you to cook larger items such as a whole chicken of up to 1.5kg. Busy professionals will also love the 30% faster cooking time.

When the first version of the Airfyer was launched in 2011, it delighted users by allowing them to cook items such as chicken, fish and chips and chicken nuggets to a “deep fried” effect with the use of little or no additional oil. According to the maker Philips, the Airfryer uses a combination of high-speed air circulation, with a top grill, to heat up ingredients in the food basket provided.

We’re not exactly sure if the food prepared in the Airfyer is indeed healthier compared to conventional frying methods, as the brand touts. However, we noticed that the Airfryer delivered a relatively oil free and nicely crisp batch of sausages and chicken nuggets without the use of additional oil.

However, if frying is not your thing, the new version of the Airfyer also allows you to grill, roast, bake and gratinate. So you can cook dishes such as herbed beef, glazed chicken, sliced potatoes in creamy cheese sauce, or bake a cake.

Personally we find the cost of $539 for the Philips Avance XL Airfryer rather costly—which is why we will start hinting our Santa friends and family for a big Christmas gift this year!
