Rice – one of the most commonly eaten foods around the world and is a staple in our everyday meal, especially in Asia. Nutrition-wise, it’s a complex carbohydrate low on calories, cholesterol, fat, and sodium. There are many different ways to cook rice, but Peach Blossoms’ Chinese Executive Chef Chan Shun Wong is going to let you taste rice you have never tasted before with his creative rice dishes this November.
First up was the nutritious stir-fried multigrain rice with seafood. Using white, brown and black glutinous rice, Chef Chan added fresh and succulent prawn and scallop, and stir-fried it to perfection. Served in a steamed pumpkin, this simply divine and healthy dish (see pic above) is only available as part of Set Menu A at $68++ per person. There’s also a similar dish, using corn instead of seafood, in the à la carte menu at $20 per order (serves 2 to 3 persons).
Another worth-trying dish in the à la carte menu was the simple and yet hearty steamed rice with pork rib ($12++). The pork ribs were marinated with garlic, chicken powder and salt for 45 minutes before it was steamed with the rice for another 45 minutes. The meat was fragrant and tender.
If you are a fish lover, you will enjoy the poached grouper fillet in rice broth served with vermicelli ($24++, serves 2 to 3 persons) that was delicious and nutritious. Boiled to perfection, the broth has all the nutrients and goodness of rice and the grouper, that was lightly poached, gave the dish an extra sweetness and flavour.
Other interesting rice dishes include fried rice with diced chicken and prawn wrapped in lotus leaf ($22++), assorted seafood on crispy rice crust with sweet and sour sauce ($28++), chilled mixed fruit salad with assorted crispy rice ($10++) and many more.
